What a great victory for Alicia, 17, from Pont-Rouge, who has just been admitted to the Cégep de Ste-Foy, in the graphic design program. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 265 has just awarded her a $1,700 bursary from the Poppy Fund to encourage her to continue her training. This assistance will enable her to begin her semester in a student residence. After years of very difficult schooling “despite above-average academic results”, it wasn’t until Secondary 3 that the young student “was diagnosed with a mild autism disorder and was able to benefit from specialized supervision”, explains her grandmother. She went on to achieve academic results beyond her expectations. Alicia even finished high school with flying colors, winning a “Cervelet d’Or” trophy last June.
